Computer Technology Department

         Computer Technology Department is the earliest department that recruits students in SCST. At present, it consists of three programs, namely, Computer Application Technology, Computer Software Technology, Computer Network Technology. The guideline is to foster on the students-centeredness, to satisfy the needs of the society and to forge ahead with great development. Computer Technology Department boasts a team of experienced teachers with excellent academic achievements. The department is equipped with advanced teaching and experimental facilities such as laboratories and training labs of computer systems and its maintenance , computer networks, computer software, computer architecture and interface laboratories, computer assembly and external equipment laboratories and innovation laboratories sponsored by enterprises. There are 1,000- odd computers in SCST.
          Relying on Tongji University, East China Normal University ,Shanghai University and various research institutions, SCST signed joint cooperation agreements with Shanghai Wanshen Information Industry Co., Ltd., Shanghai Computer Software Center and Richo Software (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Special attention has been paid to cultivating the students’ innovation and encourage their personality development in order to enable them to acquire systematic knowledge and practical skills and ultimately make them application-oriented talents in IT industry . The employment rate of the department in the past three years reaches more than 95%.

Economic  Management  Department

          Economic  Management  Department consist of seven programs, namely, Business Management, Marketing, Logistics Management, Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Human Resources Management and Exhibition Planning and Management.
          Economic  Management  Department attaches great importance to employment and places emphasis on practical skills training. It has set up eight specialized practical training labs and one Experimental Training Center covering 1,000 square meters. The center boasts of a wide range of software and hardware, including seven supportive simulation teaching-software with complete functions, with the purpose of providing comprehensive training for the students of Logistics Management, Business Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Exhibition Planning and Management. The department has also developed sixty-nine practical training projects and a teaching schedule with practical teaching hours covering 45% of the total academic hours, which provides a sound basis for cultivating the students’ awareness of practice and professional skills. With stresses on college-enterprise cooperation in running the college, the department has signed joint cooperation agreements with sixteen enterprises, including Shanghai Xinyingyuan (Group) Development Co., Ltd., Shanghai Jiangqiao Logistics Development Co., Ltd., and Jiading Xuelian Travel Agency. Furthermore, the department has reinforced the cooperative relationship with enterprises through mutual participation and mutual benefit. Every year, quite a few entrepreneurs come over to conduct classroom instruction, give lectures, deliver speeches, and guide the students’ social activities related to their fields. Two enterprises go further to grant “Jiangqiao Logistics Scholarship” and “Xinyingyuan Scholarship” in the college. In return, the department sends teachers on a regular basis to provide staff training for enterprises. College-enterprise cooperation supplies the department with reliable practical training bases and employment channels. By 2006, the department has totally brought up six hundred and forty-seven graduates, many of whom have successfully started a career as Branch Manager, Marketing Planning, or Business Supervisor, with total rate of employment reaching as high as 95%.

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences

         The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences , incorporating four programs in Applied English, Applied Japanese, Social Work, and Artistic Design, as well as a teaching and research section of College English, undertakes all the teaching tasks concerning Humanities and Linguistics of the College. Over the past few years, the department has been implementing teaching reforms from contents to styles in its full scale, thus, has established a distinctive teaching mode of Arts for vocational colleges. Wu Huan, a major of Applied English won the 1st  prize in Shanghai Practical English Speaking Competition, and the ninth place in the Final of the 3rd National Practical English Speaking Competition of Vocational Colleges in 2006.
         In recent years, with the great concern and full support of College directors, the team of teaching staff in the Department has been substantially enriched. A teaching and research team featuring young and mid-aged teachers has formed. So far, 6 sets of coursebooks have been published, over 70 essays published in academic journals of all levels, and 13 special funds program for the selection and cultivation of excellent young teachers from Shanghai Municipality undertaken or completed. The Department enjoys sound conditions for teaching and scientific researches. Eight high-quality language labs and a couple of multi-media classrooms have been completed , Yilu Japanese training base, the first on-campus language training center of its kind among vocational colleges, has also been founded as a cooperation program with Japan Yilv Information Technology Co. Ltd. All these efforts have guaranteed the teaching demands and the constant improvement of the teaching quality.

Department of Basic Sciences

         Department of Basic Science (DBS) is the section in charge of the teaching and research on various public fundamental courses excluding foreign languages and computer courses, encompassing that of General Introduction to Mao Tsedong’s Theory, Moral Integrity and Basic Laws, Advanced Mathematics A, Advanced Mathematics B, Physical Education, College Chinese, Applied Writing, Current Situations and Policies, Employment Guidance for College Students, etc. 
         DBS boasts a teaching staff with high professional qualifications and great academic achievements. Revolving around SCST education guideline of “Imparting profession-oriented essentials; Centering on Students’ moral integrity; Strengthening application of theory into practice; Giving top priority to mastery of skills”, DBS seeks persistently to expand links of teaching and research with other colleges, thus making considerable achievements in which four sets of course books are compiled mainly by members on our staff, one set of which has been sorted out as a course book authorized to be published by the Eleventh-Five Plan of the Ministry of Education, three sets of course books cooperatively compiled by members on our staff, publications of ten-odd academic papers among which five are published in key learned journals, as well as four projects of course construction and research either at college level or at city level.   
         Under the guidance of the mathematics instructors on the staff of this department, a large number of students in this college have come off with considerably satisfactory results in the Nation-wide Mathematics Model-Construction Competition for College Students for the several recent years in succession, securing a nation-wide second prize and dozens of first, second and third awards in Shanghai competition arena. In addition, some students have achieved excellently in Shanghai Athletic Competition for College Students thanks to the instruction of the teachers in this department

 

Automobile Engineering Department
         Automobile Engineering Department consists of three programs: Automobile Application Technology which includes Auto Maintenance and Auto Sales Promotion, Integrated Mechatronics Technology and Numerical Control Technology, the last two of which, in the present society, are urgently-needed ones with the employment rate more than 95% . The well-equiped Experimental and Practical Training Center has the total floor of 2,500 square meters, 5 cars specifically used in teaching routine work, one automatic testing line of security and environment, one updated electronic diagnosis device and one auto electro-simulation system imported from Germany . Adequate facilities are provided to support the experimental and practical courses, which occupy 47% of the total. Students in the department, apart from their diplomas, are required to obtain polytechnical qualification certificates, such as intermediate or advanced Auto Maintenance Technician Certificate, Auto Maintenance Electrician Certificate, Auto Sales Promotion Certificate and the like. Mechatronics stresses automatic control while Numerical Control Technology mainly cultivates advanced engineering workers for numerical control processing center and the operation and programming of numerically controlled machine tools. It also boasts a numerical control processing center, several numerically controlled milling machines, some machine tools and fourteen numerically controlled circuit cutting machine tools, besides a numerical control system comprehension experiment platform.
         The department has established some cooperations with many reputable enterprises, among which include Shanghai Baojie Auto-part Forging Company, Wuxi Jianeng Electromobile Company, Jiading Auto Maintenance Administration, Nanjing Iveco Company. The enterprises, on the other hand, send engineers and technicians to SCST to be fully engaged in teaching and administration. Meanwhile, they absorb teachers and students for field study, and contribute advanced equipment to the college. Moreover, they also offer Jianeng Scholarship and Jianeng Stipend to give their full support to SCST.

 

Communications and Electronic Information Department
         Communications and Electronic Information Department consists of four programs: Communications Technology, Applied Electronic Technology, Microelectronic Technology and Security Defense Technology.  In this department available is a public training base directed towards profession-oriented education of communications and electronic technology with 18 laboratories in which over 20 experimental and training courses can be offered, and the experimental training and the training and identification of profession-oriented skills at the same time.
         The syllabus design of all the programs in this department is oriented towards the requirements of professional posts, and the content of teaching focuses on the knowledge and skill requirements of professional qualification examination. While moderating the time assignment of theoretical courses, this department attaches great importance to practical teaching, making the verifiable experiments simulated, the specialized experiments systemized and the training and field study professional. And this department has approximately 10 joint enterprises and cultivates talents for them in accordance with their given requirements.
         There are three college-wide elite courses and one city-standard elite course of Shanghai.
         There are such student associations as Electronic Device Making Society and Digital Photography Society. Outstanding achievements have been made in the implementation of second-class program: members of these societies won a second prize and a third prize in Shanghai area in the 2005 Nation-wide Electronic Design Competition for College Students, secondary to none of the higher vocational colleges in Shanghai.
